About Climate Town
Climate Town is a New York-based media company that produces informative comedic videos, podcasts, newsletters, and other content related to the climate crisis. We're a small, tight-knit team who are passionate about using a combination of humor and academic research to educate and engage the public on climate change.
About the Role
We’re looking to hire a part-time Development Officer who can continue building out and implementing our comprehensive development strategy in order to connect our project with funding from foundations, grant-makers, and individual donors who believe in our work.
Ideal candidates will be highly organized and efficient, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as a working knowledge of philanthropy and development processes.
Our company is based in Brooklyn, NY. This job may be done fully remotely, but there is also an option for in-person work at our office.
This is a remote, part-time, independent contractor role, and is not eligible for company benefits.
Duties and Responsibilities
Researching and identifying philanthropic funding opportunities and networks
General strategizing on philanthropic revenue streams and opportunities
Working collaboratively and in support of our project's senior philanthropic consultant
Writing funder communication materials, such as grant proposals, letters of intent, concept papers, newsletters, emails, and reports
Creating and maintaining relevant documentation systems; general record-keeping, grant reporting & data entry
Liaising between the Climate Town team and funders, developing Climate Town’s funding network and relationships with funding bodies
Other fundraising/development responsibilities, as assigned
Requirements
Education: Undergraduate degree (4-year)
Work Experience: 2 years of professional philanthropy/development experience and familiarity with the philanthropic space
Language: English (fluent)
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Strong foundation in persuasive writing
Strong organizational and time management skills
General proficiency with technology
An ideal candidate would have
More than 2 years of professional philanthropy/development experience and familiarity with the philanthropic space
High-level organization skills, project & task management skills, and attention to detail
An understanding of the importance of relationship building in fundraising
A basic working knowledge of the climate crisis; a background in science communication is a plus!
Compensation
Hourly rate range: $40-55/hour, depending on experience
Time Commitment
10-20 hours/week (flexible)
